The exhibition spans 5 decades of art practice from early colour theory studies to today.

Roslyn Kean is one of Australia's most respected and admired printmakers. After studies in Sydney, The Slade in London, and in Tokyo, Kean developed a mastery of mokuhanga printmaking - traditional Japanese woodblock printmaking.

She is an internationally acclaimed practitioner who is recognised by her peers as an outstanding artist, an inspirational teacher and a sage.

This is her first solo exhibition in Canberra for 25 years and presents a selection of some of her finest work drawn from several decades of printmaking and coincides with the publication of a major monograph devoted to her work - The Art of Roslyn Kean by Sasha Grishin. Some of her prints involve up to 30 or 40 blocks to create a single work of breathtaking complexity that possesses a simplicity, spirituality and lucidity.

In conjunction with this exhibition, there is a small show, Rock at the Roadside, a set of 13 mokuhanga prints by both Australian and Japanese printmakers with the work celebrating the tanka poems of 94 year old Saeko Ogi who lives in Belconnen.

Kean in her decades of art making has created a unique body of distinctive prints on the foundations of an ancient tradition. She has made a great tradition in printmaking relevant, contemporary and distinctly her own.
